The story was simple enough -- Superboy met up with a trio of super-powered teenagers from the future, they tested him and accepted him into their club. The story had time travel, it has costumed characters, it was an origin of sorts, and it was a rite-of-passage story. Better still, it was a story that illustrated that super-heroes were a breed apart from the rest of us, and that they could bond together (happily or not) and share their common experiences, concerns, and desires.
